Agarwood is one of the most important woods used for incense in Asian culture. Considered sacred, it has a tonifying effect on the lower energy centers of the body and is considered good for practice as it can help one to “jie dan” (form a dantian). It is the type of incense Daoists use at altars and one of the most widely used for traditional Chinese tea gatherings.

Good agarwood is not easy to find. Some experts sell very high grade agarwood online for well over $100 for a small tube. On the other hand, you can find cheap stuff on Amazon that hardly seems like agarwood at all–it may even say 100% agarwood but then when you get it you realize it has either no smell at all or smells very perfumy like a bunch of additives but not agarwood itself.

I got these agarwood tubes because they strike a balance between the above two options–affordable enough to be a “daily driver” yet it is genuine and actually smells like good agarwood when you burn it.
