Huangjing

Description

This nine times steamed and dried wild huangjing 黄精 (Solomon’s Seal, polygonatum sibericum) is sourced from Zhongnan Mountains or Jiuhua Mountains from plants that are 5-8 years old. Often considered one of the Four Great Immortal Herbs 四大仙草, huangjing is revered among Daoists as an herb that is especially beneficial for cultivation as it replenishes jing and qi, nourishes yin, tonifies the kidneys, spleen, and lungs, and promotes longevity. Daoists sometimes consume it when fasting during periods of deep cultivation and references to it can be found in Daoist alchemical texts.

Huangjing can be helpful for people with weak constitutions, primarily those with spleen and kidney deficiency, lung dryness, and general weakness.

People with excessive dampness and phlegm (as indicated by a thick white tongue coating) with qi stagnation will experience increased dampness after consuming huangjing and so should avoid it. Those with high blood pressure,  high blood sugar, or diarrhea should also avoid it. If you have a cold you should wait until you recover before taking it.

Each vacuum sealed package contains a piece that is roughly 10g, each bag contains four individual pieces.

It can be eaten straight or boiled in water as a part of an herbal tea (best when steeped at a low boil for ~20 min).

The sealed packages can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a year. Once opened, keep the huangjing in the refrigerator and consume it within one month.
