Description
Modern life is full of pressure and high-stress situations which can lead to the development of liver qi stagnation. Common signs can be insomnia (waking up at 1-3am and having difficulty falling back to sleep), excessive/emotional dreaming, irritability, depression, anxiety, bitter taste in the mouth, bottled up emotions, emotionally impulsive, feeling “obstructed,” soreness in the rib area, or having the sensation of a lump in the throat.
It’s best to correct the imbalance before it progresses to something worse. Additionally, anyone who is endeavoring to increase their energy levels, whether through something like neigong practice or tonifying herbs, needs to make sure any stagnation like this is resolved as a first step to avoid problems.
Why a footbath? In this case, many report better results absorbing the herbs directly through the skin as opposed to taking the herbs orally, One reason for this is because the liver qi stagnation has already affected the stomach/spleen systems hindering absorbability via that route, Additionally, some may be more prone to experiencing minor but undesirable side-effects when consuming orally which don’t occur when using the foot bath approach.
This Jie Yu Tang 解郁汤 footbath brings quick and noticeable results, It can turn a pattern of mid-night insomnia into the best night of sleep that you’ve had in ages, sometimes after just one footbath.
Sourced by one of my neidan teachers, this footbath contains many high-quality ingredients which results in a higher price tag, but it is worth it. The long gu 龙骨 “dragon bone,” an ingredient often faked in modern formulas, is indeed genuine.
The following is the full ingredient list:
Duan long gu, fueling, chai hu, yesheng gan cao, fa banxia, dan shen, huang qin, duan muli, bai shao, gui zhi, xiang fu, yuan zhi, zhen zhu, yu jin, chao zhi zi, dan pi, shen di.
Instructions for use:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the herb packet.
Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
For a stronger effect, make two decoctions and combine them.
Add decoction to a footbath bucket.
Either let cool or mix in cold water so that the temperature does not burn but is still very hot.
The water should at least cover the feet, but a large bucket that can bring the footbath up over the calves closer to the knees will be more effective.
Soak feet in the footbath for 20 minutes.
You can do up to two footbath per day (even re-using the same herb packet) and try persisting in footbath daily for several days (2-7 days).
However, it is recommended to start with a single footbath per day once or twice per week and take it slowly from there.
